The Toolbar¶
In the upper right corner of Disco, you find a toolbar that is accessible from any view in Disco (see Figure 1).
The toolbar gives you quick access to the following elements:
- Help (1)
- Clicking on the lifebelt symbol brings up the sticky notes again that were shown the first time you started Disco (see Helpful Sticky Notes).
- Feedback (2)
- The feedback button allows you to send in-app feedback right from within Disco (see Bug Reports and Feedback).
- License (3)
- The badge above your email address shows your current Disco license. You can click on the license badge to get more information or update your license (see Your Disco License).
- Email address (4)
- The email address with which you have registered Disco serves as your Fluxicon ID. You can click on the email address to change it (see Changing Your Email Address).
- Control center (5)
- Click on the DISCO logo to go to The Control Center for the software version history, for your system benchmark, for increasing your main memory in Disco, and for changing your hard disk or your workspace location.
Helpful Sticky Notes¶
When you started Disco the first time, you probably noted the yellow sticky notes that introduced you to the key elements in the application in every view (see Figure 2). They serve as a quick introduction and orientation help while you are exploring the functionality of Disco.
If you are lost at a later point in time, you can bring back these sticky notes anytime by clicking on the lifebelt symbol in the toolbar, see (1) in Figure 1. You can make them disappear again clicking on the lifebelt symbol again or by clicking anywhere else in the Disco application screen.
Bug Reports and Feedback¶
The feedback button in the toolbar, see (2) in Figure 1, brings up a pop-over as shown in Figure 3, which allows you quickly drop some notes that will be sent right to the inbox of Disco’s developers.
Note
To use the in-app feedback, Disco needs to have an internet connection. If you are currently using Disco offline, you can refer to Bringing Disco Online to learn how you can connect Disco to the internet. If you keep using Disco offline, you can send your feedback to support@fluxicon.com.
We closely listen to what our users have to say about Disco and encourage you to send any feedback that comes to mind. For example, you can let us know about:
- Bugs. If Disco is not working as expected based on your data set, please let us know about it so that we can fix it. When you have the checkbox Include diagnostic information enabled, we will receive some additional technical information along with your problem description. The diagnostic information includes technical details like error messages, computer program stack traces, etc. It does not contain any of the actual data that you are analyzing in Disco.
- Improvements. For example, do you find yourself repeating a certain task in multiple steps all the time and you feel there would be a better way? We would love to hear from you and many suggestions have already found their way into Disco.
- Something that is not clear to you. Our goal is to make Disco as simple to use as possible to allow you to focus on your work and your analysis. If something is not clear, tell us and we will explain. This also helps us to improve the usability in the long term.
- Additional functionality that you would find useful. We have many ideas about where we want to take Disco in the future, and getting your input will help us prioritize new functionality in the right way.
- Things you like about Disco. Knowing what people value about Disco will help us to ensure that it stays that way.
Just know that there is nothing too small or insignificant that we would not want to hear about it!
Furthermore, when something goes wrong in Disco, you will see an error or warning dialog. This error dialog contains a button that lets you directly provide feedback on this problem, right when it occurs. Simply press the Report problem… button and add a short description of what happened (see Figure 4).
Also for the feedback that you provide from the error dialog, you can include diagnostic information that allows us to see the technical internals of Disco at the time of feedback. We recommend to include the diagnostic information, because it allows us to get a better idea of what may have caused the problem, and enables us to fix it faster and in a better way. But if you prefer not to send diagnostic information, you can always disable this option while still sending us your problem report from the text window.
After you have sent your feedback, Disco will bring you back to right where you left off, so your flow of work will not be interrupted.
Your Disco License¶
When you install Disco for the first time, you automatically get a demo license. So the badge above your email address in the upper right corner will say Demo. See Using the Demo License for how to work with Disco in demo mode. If you have another license, the license type will displayed accordingly.
When you click on the badge with your license type, see (3) in Figure 1, then you get an overview of the licensing terms and the license agreement that you accepted during the installation of Disco as shown in Figure 5 for the Enterprise license.
In this license view, you have the following three options:
- Use another license. Click this button if you have received a license code for another license that you want to activate. We have different license models to support different use cases. Contact us by filling out the form at http://fluxicon.com/disco/buy.php or send us an email via info@fluxicon.com to see which license is the best fit for your situation. If we already have provided a new license for you, then you can follow the instructions in Updating Your Disco License.
- Refresh. Licenses are automatically downloaded from our server when you start Disco. If you license has been updated while you are running Disco, you can use the Refresh button to get the latest license.
- OK. Clicking OK closes the license view.
